There are some things that are non- negotiable facts. Take for instance the illustration of the square peg in a round hole. The fact is it’s not humanly possible to put a square peg in a round hole of the same size without altering the square peg.
While we’re talking about facts though, it’s important to recognize that fact that in God’s kingdom the words “humanly possible” mean nothing! Is it possible to put a square peg in a round hole in God’s kingdom? Yes! It’s not just possible it’s the nature of His kingdom.
When Jesus began teaching His disciples (the first 12 and everyone who would be His disciples later) about the nature of His kingdom, He said “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat…” (Matthew 13:24 -25) He goes on to clarify that “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seeds stand for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. (Matthew 13:37-38) So the sons of God (good seed) live in the world (the field) with the sons of the evil one (weeds) and this is what the kingdom of heaven looks like? You got it!
This is why Jesus said of His children that they would be “in the world but not of the world.” (John 17: 11, 16) We can, we’re supposed to live in the world and in His kingdom at the same time. In His kingdom, and in His wisdom; He’s designed things in such a way that He fills the empty space that the round hole leaves with a square peg without ever altering the makeup of the square peg! And while the square peg can never look the same as the round hole, it’s the only thing that can fill the emptiness that exists in the round hole.
This mindset makes no sense to the ones in the world that are not the children of God. That’s because “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his (her) heart. (Matthew 13:19)
The one thing not possible in God’s kingdom is to live of the world and in His kingdom at the same time. Living of the world will always leave emptiness. Living in the kingdom will always fill emptiness.
So what does all this mean to you and me? If you’re in the world and of the world, your life will always have emptiness that can only be filled in the kingdom of God. Christ (the perfect sinless Son of God) took the sin of the whole world upon him though there was no sin in Him and died to pay the price for all the sin of the entire world including yours. Through that alone, you can be forgiven of sin and given new life (in God’s kingdom)!
If you’re in the world and in His kingdom, God placed you in the world to work through you to fill the emptiness left by the evil one. “Seek first His kingdom…” (Matthew 6:33) It’s why you’re here!

We live in a culture that’s all about planning! As Nancy and I watched the Super Bowl together last night, she was surprised to learn that the quarterbacks wear their plays on their arms. It’s important for them to have their game plan close at hand. To win the big game, you have to have a plan.
